Compact Fluorescent Lighting

CFL

Facts and Products Knowledge:

  • Uses 40% of its energy for producing light - four times more efficient than an incandescent bulb.
  • Generate 80% less heat than incandescent bulbs, which means they are safer to operate.
  • Last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, so the inconvenience of having to change bulbs is reduced to a minimum.
  • All ENERGY STAR CFL’s carry at least a 2 year warranty.

Tips:

  • The higher the CRI (color rendering index), the more accurately a light source renders colors of objects. ENERGY STAR CFLs must have a CRI of at least 80 in order to qualify. CRI is measured in Kelvin (K).
  • CFLs are available with warm and cool color temperatures. The lower the color temperature number, the warmer the color of the light is.
  • The color temperature range of 2700K–3000K works well in most residential settings and enhances warmer colors (red, yellow, orange)
  • The color temperature range 3500K-6500K will emit more white to bluish-white light and usually identified with the terms “bright white”, “natural” or “daylight”. These colors will enhance cooler colors (blue, green, violet).
  • Choose bulbs based on the light output you desire, not just the wattage.
