The Ninth Annual New York State Affordable Housing Conference
NYSAFAH works with New York State and New York City housing agencies to help make their programs the best in the country. They also monitor proposed legislation that may affect the industry. Currently, they are working to exempt affordable housing from prevailing wage legislation and to amend the Scaffold Law, a major cause of the skyrocketing costs of builders’ liability insurance. In New York City, they modified bills which would have raised the cost of affordable housing development.

To learn about NYSERDA programs, participate in the Cut Costs, Build Green seminar. Seminar description: Green criteria, including ENERGY STAR and LEED, are becoming important components of most city and state housing programs. Meet the developers, consultants, and government officials that have successfully taken green buildings from design development to occupancy, and discover resources and processes that allow you to build and finance these buildings.

2008 LIFE Statewide Conference
The theme for this year's Conference is Climate for Change: A Better LIFE. In New York State, change is in the air. New York’s “15 by 15” energy efficiency initiative was introduced by Gov. Eliot Spitzer in April 2007. All New Yorkers were challenged to participate in reaching the lofty goal of reducing the energy used by 15% from forecast levels by the year 2015. “All New Yorkers” includes those who are low-income.

The conference will build on lessons learned in prior LIFE conferences and will feature sessions on consumer education, emerging energy issues, and information on some of the resource programs that assist low-income energy customers. We will also be celebrating LIFE’s 10th Anniversary and recognizing the 2008 LIFE Achievement Award winners. Our agenda promises to provide two action-packed days!
