Energy Career Training

NYSERDA is supporting the development of a statewide network of training programs for those interested in an energy career.

New York State has set ambitious statewide goals for becoming more efficient and using cleaner, renewable energy. Achieving these goals will save money, create jobs, and help clean up the environment.

Training a green workforce to install clean energy technologies and energy efficiency improvements is a top priority for NYSERDA. A highly trained workforce ensures that we get the greatest amount of energy savings from energy efficiency improvements and production from renewable energy systems.

These training programs provide accessible and quality instructional opportunities for those that are interested in energy careers. NYSERDA and dozens of partners have invested millions of dollars to develop energy efficiency and renewable energy training centers across the State.

Training on energy efficiency and clean energy technologies is being provided by community colleges, unions, associations, technical high schools, and through Centers for Energy Efficiency and Building Science (CEEBS). Courses are being offered on building science principles, as well as energy efficiency, photovoltaics, solar thermal, geothermal, small and large wind, and fuel cells. Some of these programs are more established than others, some will be getting started in 2009. Some PV training centers have earned accreditation for their programs from the international Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISP). The energy efficiency classes offered at the CEEBS are recognized by the Building Performance Institute (BPI).
