National Grid Gas Customer Efficiency Program

The Program is funded by National Grid under an agreement with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to expand the delivery of natural gas efficiency services to low-income natural gas customers of National Grid. NYSERDA provides funding for electric reduction measures from the New York Energy $martSM Program to ensure comprehensive projects.

What this Program Offers

Expanded energy efficiency services for low-income National Grid gas customers, including cost-effective natural gas usage reduction measures:

  • Improving insulation
  • Heating system upgrades
  • Draft reduction
  • Conversions from electric to gas appliances and water heaters

Cost-effective electric reduction measures are also included.

Who is Eligible

Current National Grid natural gas customers residing in 1-to-4 family homes with household income below 60% of state median (i.e., HEAP-eligible) are eligible.

How to Apply

Referrals will be accepted from National Grid and participating Offices for the Aging and Weatherization Agencies, or through the Program Implementor, Honeywell International, listed below.

What is the Cost

There is no cost to the customer. In rental situations, certain measures that directly benefit the eligible tenant will be offered without a landlord contribution. Additional eligible measures generally require a 25% landlord contribution.

How are Services Determined

Customers must complete and return an Energy Services Application. Energy efficiency services are prioritized based on the potential for cost-effective natural gas usage reduction.
