Home : Single Family Homes (1-4 Units) : Existing Buildings : Residential Contractor : How to Participate
How do I become a participating contractor?
1. Download a Contractor Information brochure.
2. Enroll in program training (Optional). There are two levels of
training offered through the program: Building Analyst training and Specialist level
trainings. The training is optional, but highly recommended. Most of the program's
participating contractors have taken the training and found it helpful in passing
the certification tests. A partial subsidy is available for training.

3. Purchase equipment. The program offers assistance to contractors
in procuring the proper diagnostic equipment needed to perform home performance
jobs. Incentives are available to help offset the cost.
4. Individual becomes BPI Certified. To become BPI accredited, the
company must have at least one technician who is BPI certified at the Specialist
level (Heating, Shell or Cooling). The individual technician contacts BPI to
schedule their certification tests. These tests include both a written and field
component. Upon successful completion of BPI certification requirements, the program
will reimburse a portion of the cost.
5. Company becomes BPI Accredited. A company must become BPI
accredited to participate in the program. To become BPI accredited, the company must
have at least one (1) technician become BPI certified at the Specialist level
(Heating, Shell or Cooling). Companies must also fulfill all other
BPI requirements in order to participate in the program. Upon successful
completion of BPI accreditation requirements, the program will reimburse a portion of
the cost.
6. Sign Market Region Signature Form. New York State has been
divided into eight (8) New York Energy $martSM Market Regions. The Market Regions

provide Program Services
