Photovoltaic Installation Basics Learn the basics on installing a photovoltaic (PV) system, including how to site and design the system. Topics include: How to size a system for both grid connected an off-grid systems, Solar resources, Problems associated with shading and best orientation and tilt for PV arrays, Basic sizing and design of systems to serve a specific electrical load, Safety procedures for installers and study of the electrical code, and Various mounting systems for PV arrays and their affects on roofs. The class concludes with the installation of a PV system. An optional textbook is available at the BCC Bookstore. Prerequisite: must have a high school diploma, be able to do simple arithmetic calculations, and have a basic understanding of electricity including familiarity with volts, amps, and AC wiring.
