Additional Incentives Based on Income Eligibility

Households with an income equal to or lower than 80% of state or area median income, whichever is greater, can receive additional financial incentives through Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®. That's an income of nearly $60,000 a year for a family of 4 in most counties and higher in several downstate counties. Click here for income quidelines.

Your annual income will be verified using pay stubs with year-to-date earnings and other appropriate documentation. If you are income-eligible, you may receive assistance to cover up to 50% of the cost of energy improvements. Contact Energy Finance Solutions at 1-800-361-5663 to see if you are eligible.

Household income is defined as total cash receipts before taxes from all sources. Income eligibility is based on the past twelve (12) months of total household income. Download this guide for details on income included or excluded from determining eligibility.

Single Family: The building occupant's income must be less than or equal to what is listed in the income quidelines for the number of people living in the household. A 50% subsidy up to $5,000 may be available.

Renters: Income-qualified tenants can receive up to a 50% subsidy towards the purchase of ENERGY STAR appliances and lighting or other energy-reducing products. Use the income quidelines to determine if you are income-eligible.

2-4 family Building Owners: Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR will perform work in 2-4 unit buildings where either the owner is income qualified and occupies one of the units, or tenants are income-qualified.

An income qualified owner that occupies a unit in a 2-4 unit building can receive a subsidy of up to $5,000 for the whole building without any income verification required for the tenants. A higher subsidy, up to a total of $10,000 per building, may be available if tenants also are income eligible. Use the following chart to determine the level of subsidy and count the income-eligible and occupying owner as an income eligible unit.

The subsidy is available for whole-house, insulation, and heating system improvements, according to the following chart, up to the maximum cap described above:

  Total Number of Building Units
Number of Income Eligible Units 1 2 3 4
4       50%
3     50% 45%
2   50% 40% 30%
1 50% 30% 20% 15%

A household with income at or below 60 percent of state median may be eligible to receive free energy efficiency services through the Weatherization Assistance Program. However, the household may elect to participate in the Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program if it prefers. The household will be required to sign a statement that it was informed of the potential for free services through the Weatherization Assistance Program but elects to receive Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. The household is responsible for payment of the balance of the project cost.

A household may not use the value of work under the Weatherization Assistance Program or the EmPower New Yorksm program as any part of the required customer contribution to the project cost for Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. However, other public and private funds may be used as the customer contribution.
